REVIEW: Gus (Bright Side #2) by Kim Holden

The journey that began in top-rated, best-selling Bright Side, continues ...

This is the story of Gus.
Losing himself.
Finding himself.
And healing along the way.

“ … but the honest-to-God truth is I don’t even know how to function anymore. Bright Side wasn’t only my best friend; she was like my other half ... the other half of my brain, the other half of my conscience, the other half of my sense of humor, the other half of my creativity, the other half of my heart. How do you go back to doing what you did before, when half of you is gone forever?”

5+++++ Heal my Heart Stars

If any of you are worried to delve into this after Bright Side, I'll just say that this book gives us the happy feeling. It will give you everything and more, I'm telling you, I am very happy with how this book unfolded and ended for me its was the best way for Kim to help us readers to move on and ultimately to again to question ourselves. To think and then to understand who Gus really is. It still has emotional moments but its not gut wrenching just happiness for me anyway. This book was heart warming had moments that included Kate and all that surrounded her but above all it's a story about family and friendship.

So What's it about
Gus is not handling things after the ending of Bright Side therefore he's living a reckless way he's not handling living life on the road AT ALL he's away from home and he's away from his Ma and is grieving over his other half. The first 1/4 I would say is the hardest to read because Gus isn't his usually happy go lucky self, he's going down the path of self destruction which included booze, drugs and women. That's what his life pretty much entailed. Drowning his sorrows and Running away from his problems and those aspects just were there to stop him remembering about HER.

But then things change and he meets Scout she's there to be his 'Babysitter' because the band and organisers of the Tour can't handle him anymore . He gets someone to deal with him and everything that he needs, unlucky for both sides they both aren't greatly happy about the job.
Scout is a quiet nonsense kind of gal, she doesn't take shit from Gus , and at the same time doesn't get too involved with him. She has her own issues she's dealing with and needs this job opportunity so she is basically there to help but not to feel. Saying that Gus has a way to help her even if he doesn't want to, Scout at the beginning I would say is a buffer that helps Gus to breathe a little easier she's a deterrent in his darkness and that just helps him gradually to start to live again.

Even though they both don't want to be around each other greatly there were some funny moments. Things I enjoyed about this part was Gus's dry sense of humour and likewise how Scout mothered him to you know 'Have a shower' or when your clothes don't move It's time to wash them.... it's time
Sometimes you meet people and you know the meeting wasn't chance. That they need you or you need them, sometimes both.
Over time they both start to see a different side to each other and that alone opens up there friendship, it helps them both breathe. It helps them to see how to live again. Then when the Tour ends Scout gets a position working with Gus's Ma and in that they both continue to see each other daily. Scout starts to see who Gus really is in the comfort of his home; the bubbly happy go lucky guy . he is the Gus who puts himself last in every obstacle and always one step ahead in being there for everyone around him, he's the Jedi of friendship you just can't help but fall for his character and who is resembles.

Kim deliver's another heart warming story that seeps into your pours and gradually see the family theme in this story. There are a few new characters to enjoy too....

Characters that make him start to believe in himself, characters where I would say bright Side put there for him on purpose.

Kim has a way with words that make you as a reader FEEL. In the quiet moments I really did see what Kim was doing as I read his story, this wasn't just a romance but a book on new beginnings and life. Gus learned how to be himself again and even more so he learnt how to give freely to the people around him who needed him and who plainly just wanted him to be there and around them because his nature was just an all around existence of love.

I'm not going to say anything else other than this book is Deep, Hard, Intense, Emotional and then Loving, Honest, and Heart Warming. This is a book of LOVE and honest to God this book has all the FEELS people just need to give these characters a chance, I know some don't like NA reads for immaturity and the age limits of the characters but this book is about Family and living its a story about learning how to live, how to continue and how to move forward. But above all this book is Simplicity Kims books to talk to my heart in a way that speaks volumes, it touched me in ways I can't express but this book is an EXPERIENCE that everyone needs to try whatever age you are (Just my opinion though).

Again the music was apart of the story as much as the words were it was the life of the book so I'd highly recommend you listening some of these tracks as you read the book.

This book was written for the READERS so READ IT!!!!

That. Is. All.

REVIEW: Wicked White (Wicked White #1) by Michelle A. Valentine

After his mother dies, rock star Ace White—lead singer of the red-hot band Wicked White—is done with the celebrity game. The phony people, the meaningless one-night stands: he doesn’t want any of it anymore. Quitting in the middle of a sold-out tour, Ace sets out to find some place—any place—where he can be alone.

Aspiring singer Iris Easton’s life has never been easy. First, her mother walked out on her when she was a kid. Now she’s buried in debt, weeks after losing her beloved grandmother. When a mysterious and sexy new guy moves in next door, Iris can’t help but be drawn to his soulful gaze. She can tell there’s something from his past haunting him—something he’s not telling her.
Just as Ace starts falling for Iris, the media go on a worldwide hunt to find the missing rocker. Will true love conquer all, or will the truth be the very thing that tears the couple apart?

3 Stars

I had my moments with this book. There were things I liked and things I struggled with. I really liked that this was an original take on the whole rock star life. Rather than embrace the fame and all that, Ace White (lead singer of Wicked White) is not loving his fame and fortune. He’s a puppet to his record label and manager which forces him to shove it all when his mother dies.

He escapes to nowheresville, USA where he meets Iris Easton. She was refreshing. She could have easily been a cliché but Ms. Valentine gives us a strong, smart and sassy heroine.

I struggled with how sweet Ace was. Yes, I’m used to the jaded, man-whoring rock star, which Ace was not. He was a good man and the things he did and said to Iris were really sweet and romantic, sometimes just too good to be true. Also, the insta-fated love of Iris and Ace was sometimes hard to buy.

Overall, this was a fast read. If you like sweet romances, low on the angst, you’ll enjoy this.

BOOK BLITZ: Conviction (The Consolation Duet #2) by Corinne Michaels **GIVEAWAY & 2 EXCERPTS**

I fell in love with Liam only to be left shattered into a million pieces. Again. The idea of being without him cripples me but the reality is, he’s gone.

He doesn’t understand and I can’t make him.

If only he’d see the conviction behind my words—then Liam would still be here.

Liam and Natalie return in Conviction!
Find out how their story continues….

Time isn’t something I ever thought much about.

It ebbs and flows, but it never changes. I can’t make it stop—no matter how much I want to. There’s no way to rewind the clock or halt it. In this moment, all I want is to make the world stop and go back to when I was happy and ready to tackle the world. Just two short minutes ago, there was no worry about how my day would go. I was going away with the man I love, the one who healed me. But time isn’t my friend. It slaps me in the face and laughs as I stand here wondering how the hell any of this is happening. I don’t want to move forward, and I sure as hell don’t want to slow it down.

His voice is thick and husky as he refuses to break from my eyes. “Tell me you’re real.”

“I’m real.”

“Tell me you’re really here.”

“I’m here with you.” My hand rises, and I press my thumb to his lips. “I’m here for you. I’m here with only you. I need you so much.”

His eyes close as I rub my thumb, savoring the rough feel on my skin.

“Stay with me,” he pleads.

Liam’s hands rest on each side of my face as I drag him down further. “There’s nowhere else I want to be.” Our lips meet, and I lose myself.

Liam wasn’t supposed to be my happily ever after.
He wasn’t even on my radar.
He was my husband’s best friend—forbidden.

But my husband is dead and I’m alone. I ache for him and I reach for Liam.

One night with Liam changed everything. Now I have to decide if I truly love him or if he’s just the consolation prize.
